Warwick WI, Annual Report, 2017/2018 • New Committee, Anne Treasurer and Rosemary only Committee members to continue serving. Now have Steph and Sue serving as joint Presidents which is working very well. • Variety of activities at Monthly meetings including crafts for Christmas, Laughing Yoga and Tai Chi to get us moving and talks about Justice and Punishment through history, making delicious meals with what’s available, and the secrets of a Tour Guide at various well known visitor attractions. For further mental stimulation we had a quiz and for a bit of fun an Annual Dinner at the Roebuck in January and a summer social at our August meeting. • Clubs are still going strong and include Knit & Natter, Walking, Book Group, Wine, Film and Bridge. A new Campaigns Group was set up and is open to new members. • Avon Group activities included a Celebration of Christmas which we hosted and was very well supported. Warwick Day Time are this year’s hosts and they have organised a Committee Supper and a Group Meeting. • Warwickshire Federation celebrates its centenary this year. Several members went to the Annual event at Chesford Grange and on the Grand Day Out to Lincoln. As part of the celebrations each WI was twinned with another in the Federation that they would not normally meet up with. We were twinned with Bilton, near Rugby and they invited our members to a lovely Ploughman’s Lunch in August. It was delightful to meet a number of their members and to see the memorabilia they have collected over the years. We look forward to entertaining as many of them as possible in Warwick sometime in the New Year. • We organised an outing to Guys Cliffe Walled Garden where we had a talk about the history of the garden and guided walk after which we had tea and cake. We did have to tell them that the cake wasn’t up to the standard the WI expected! It was a very hot afternoon but we had still had an enjoyable time and would recommend a visit. • A few of our members submitted entries and attended the Warwickshire Federation Centenary Produce & Craft Show at Napton in August. We won a couple of prizes and had a lovely afternoon out. • Many of our members have been knitting scarves, hats and gloves for the homeless as part of the Federations fund raising efforts. We also held a plant and book sale at our May meeting to raise funds for Warwickshire Air Ambulance, this year’s charity and at the beginning of August we held a Cream Tea. Proceeds from that went towards the Denman Bursary awarded to Barbara at our Summer Social. • And of course, we have knitted hundreds if not thousands of poppies. We are really looking forward to seeing them on display at St Mary’s Church. A wonderful climax to another successful and happy Warwick WI year.
